November 2014 in the fabulous Fulton, Missouri is where it all began. Sarah was delaying her inevitable adult responsibilities by moving back in with her parents after living abroad and Hayden was not quite ready to leave Westminster College so he "decided" to take a victory lap,  more commonly known as a fifth year. Like many Fultonites and Westminster attendees before them, they obtained jobs as waiters at Beks Restaurant. After Sarah turned down Hayden's invitation to a fraternity Halloween costume party he was determined to win her over, but needed a new approach. After about a month of attempted flirting, Sarah knew that if this was ever going to go anywhere she needed to take the reins and ask him to get a drink after work. Two Budweisers in, Hayden found the courage and strength to ask Sarah on their first official date. Sarah accepted with great enthusiasm and Flat Branch lunch was had by all. Fast forward past a graduation, two moves, a dog, career changes and cohabiting. It is now summer 2017 and Sarah is antsy, to say the least, about getting engaged. While she was away for work Hayden put a plan into action and enlisted the help of the Maid of Honor Vanessa Hays and the Mother of the Bride Betsy Schlemeier to pick out the perfect ring. In the middle of the holidays, surrounded by loved ones Hayden got down on one knee and asked Sarah the easiest question and she said yes.
